Why don't you just leave the base texture greyscale (except for where the gold clasp is) and then using the CTU, change the default Pattern color to the blue color that you wanted. In an attempt to control the brightness, I edited the specular to be entirely black, so there are no dark grey or white areas. My shirt doesn't have a pattern or stencil-all edits were done directly to the base texture, so it's actually dark blue right now, not white or grey. I have to manually lower the brightness into the middle of the bar in order to get it to resemble the texture I exported out of Photoshop. For some reason, when my skin loads up on the mannequin, the brightness value is by default set somewhere near the high "bright" end. CAS allows you to adjust the "gamma" of your clothing.
